Automatic Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator (AICD)

CDs are beneficial in checking abrupt death in patients with known, continued ventricular tachycardia .Readings have shown ICDs  to have a part in avoiding cardiac arrest in great risk patients.

Newer age group ICDs may have a double purpose which contains the skill to help as a pacemaker.

It is a minor electronic device that is fixed into your chest to display and correct an unusual heartbeat. These devices are used to treat severe arrhythmias.

There are many ways of treatments:

In the first case, the device attempts to stop the anomalous rhythm. If that flops, the device will convey an electrical shock to the heart to rearrange its rhythm .Your cardiologist will manage the defibrillator to provide the best healing for you.

The process will be done in a cardiology laboratory .Patients should stay in the clinic for at least two nights. An ECG will be completed and you may have blood taken. Go on hunger strike for 6 hours up to the admittance time. Blood thinning medicine may need to be still for some days before the technique.

The procedure

The process proceeds for an hour. In the course of this time, you will be given some light restfulness to help to feel relaxed. You will be conscious but sleepy. An area below the collar bone will be insensate with local anesthetic .the cardiologist will create a minor cut to pull-out the AICD. The leads are then directed through a vein into the heart and coupled to the device. The skin is then stitched together and a small bandage applied.

On your arrival to the cardiac care unit you will have your heart beat and blood pressure observed. You should get an ECG and also chest X-ray. You will be compulsory to rest in bed for some hours as per your doctor's instructions.

The wound place will be detected for enlargement and blood loss. Pain release for wound uneasiness will be given if essential.

The need of an ICD?

  • If anybody Took a ventricular arrhythmia

  • If there was a heart attack

  • Continued an abrupt cardiac arrest

  • Long QT condition

  • Brugada disease

  • An inherited heart disease or other basic situations for quick cardiac arrest

  • Following discharge

  • You will halt in hospital for at least two nights and will be discharged when your cardiologist is blissful with your development. You will get an information brochure after your procedure specifying information about an AICD.

  • Important facts to converse with your cardiologist for discharge are:

  • Probable driving limitations

  • Possible medication variations

  • Monitor an appointment particulars

  • Medic Alert band claim

  • What to do if you take treatment from your AICD

  • Since these are life-saving policies they do need to be examined strictly to confirm that the system is working generally and that unsuitable shocks are lessened. Patients will need to have fixed appointments with their cardiologist so that they can exam the AICD.

  • A follow-up appointment will more than likely be planned for 2-4 weeks advanced in the checking places.
