WHAT ARE THE INDICATIONS FOR RE-TRANSPLANATATION?

Usually

  1. Primary malfunction of the donor heart either from rejection or from the inadequate pre-transplant care of the donor heart or severe pulmonary hypertention or size mismatch.
  2. Late coronary artery disease

WHAT ARE THE ISSUES OF RE-TRANSPLANTATION?

Patient is already immuno-compromised, more chance of infection,deteriorated other organs function and dependance on other support systems make the procedure riskier.

WHAT ARE THE RESULTS OF RE-TRANSPLANTATION?

If re-transplantation is for coronary artery disease ,results are better. If it was due to rejection additional care has to be taken.
